Converse X Maison Martin Margiela

Maison Martin Margiela gives the All-American trainer brand Converse and avant-garde makeover for autumn.
Maison Martin Margiele and Converse's collaboration features a range of high-top All-Star and low-top Jack Purcell trainers launching in stores this month that are completely hand-dipped in bright white paint - and we mean completely. The canvas, eyelets, laces, and even the soles get the treatment.
The paint cracks as you wear them to reveal one of four colors underneath - heritage Converse colors including red, black, navy and a Maison Martin Margiela exclusive, vintage yellow.
"The Maison has always been obsessed with white; it is used as a layer to give an incognito feeling. A sort of poetry, with the passage of time, the shoes asserts itself,' says Maison Martin Margiela.

Retailing at $230, these are available at Maison Martin Margiela stores and select Converse First String retailers from September.

Sophia Webster Teams Up With J.Crew

The designer's capsule shoe collection steals the show at J.Crew spring/summer 2014.
At home among the brights and patterns, Sophia Webster's capsule shoe collection for J.Crew was a highlight of their spring/summer 2014 show. The collaboration perfectly blends British designer Webster's love for the crazy and colorful with the aesthetic of J.Crew's latest collection. Webster told WWD, "The collection is really fun and feminine, very me, but still a hybrid of the two brands."

President and executive creative director for J.Crew Jenna Lyons likened the detailed shoes to "miniature sets - a beautiful world for your feet to spend the day in. Each shoe tells a unique story." The Sophia Webster for J.Crew Collection features 12 styles in an assortment of colors and patterns, from polka dot to Aztec-style cut-out to floral. An undisputed designer collaboration success, the shoes will launch in selected stores and on jcrew.com in early 2014.

Deborah Lippmann Fall 2013 Collection

If there’s one thing that Deborah Lippmann does well (which may be hard to declare what with her unique square bottles, luxe formulas, and on-trend pigments) it’d have to be those glitter polishes. From the cult classic Happy Birthday chunky glitter to her recent scintillating Mermaids summer offering, the nail veteran is known for paints that sparkle and shine in whole new ways. Now for fall, Lippmann is dialing up the dazzle factor to its very brink with the all-new holographic Jewel Heist collection.
Launching this month, the offering is inspired by the flash and opulence of sapphires, emeralds, and pure gold. The six-piece line includes glowing crèmes ($17), gleaming shimmers ($17), and glistening prismatic mega-glitters ($19). We caught up with Lippmann in a brief interview to ask what we can expect from her new ever-twinkly lineup. (Note: sunglasses sold separately.)

What was your inspiration for Jewel Heist and what made you choose the colors you did for this fall collection?

I love jewelry and am always inspired by beautiful jewel tones, especially for fall. This collection includes luxurious hues of gold, emerald and sapphire—it’s like wearing jewelry on your nails, but you can do it yourself. The collection offers classic, subtler shades, with complementary glitter that can be layered or worn alone. There are both sophisticated and chic hues and opulent versions. This allows an option for every mood and occasion.

We've seen holographic polishes floating around here and there for a few seasons now. What makes these so unique and on-trend now for fall?

The mega-holographic polish in this collection is new to my glitter range. It offers a high-impact reflection of a full spectrum of color. Texture in general is also a huge trend for fall—whether it’s a holographic glitter, a matte finish, or a layered look. This collection offers options for simplicity or layering.

How can we make such a sparkly look more wearable for every day?

You could paint just an accent nail or make the rest of your look very simple. Let your nails be the statement, with very minimal makeup, straight or pulled-back hair, and simple clothing without patterns otherwise. Also, for a subtle hint of sparkle, you could place a dab of glitter on the tip of the nail to create a modern French manicure (which I call a duet), or an ombré look.

Pantone: Women's Spring 2014 Color Report

Designers take a modern twist on the traditional for spring 2014 by pairing soft pastels with vivid brights to create a colorful equilibrium. Inspired by a mixture of blooming flowers, travels abroad and strong, confident women, designers use color to refresh, revive and defy conventional wisdom.
"This season, consumers are looking for a state of thoughtful, emotional and artistic equilibrium," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. "While this need for stability is reflected in the composition of the palette, the inherent versatility of the individual colors allows for experimentation with new looks and color combinations."
Three very adaptable pastels sit on one end of the palette, and, because we are so accustomed to seeing them as nature's background, they can be creatively combined with any other color in the spectrum. Placid Blue, like a picture-perfect, tranquil and reassuring sky, induces a sense of peaceful calmness, while Violet Tulip, a romantic, vintage purple, evokes wistful nostalgia. Similar to the verdant shade of springtime foliage, Hemlock, a summery, ornamental green, provides a decorative touch that's very different from the greens of recent seasons. Pair any of these versatile pastels with a bolder hue for an au courant look.
Sand, a lightly toasted and amiable neutral, conjures images of the beach and the carefree days of summer. Try pairing Sand with Hemlock for perfect, natural balance. Paloma serves as a quintessential neutral, interesting enough to be worn alone or combined with any color for sophisticated poise.
Cayenne, a high-pitched red, adds a dash of spicy heat to neutrals, and heightens the excitement when mixed with Freesia, a blazing yellow that is sure to illuminate wardrobes this season. A tropical, floral-inspired shade, Freesia's warmth and energy help set the stage for Celosia Orange, an optimistic, spontaneous hue. Pair Celosia Orange with Violet Tulip for a captivating vision, much like the setting summer sun.
The palette is brought full circle with Radiant Orchid, a bold counterpart to Violet Tulip, andDazzling Blue,a scintillating, polar opposite to Placid Blue. Surprisingly, these strong, vibrant colors also pair well across the palette: They are perfect companions to pastels, and add confidence and vivacity when mixed with other bold colors.
For more than 20 years, Pantone, the global authority on color, has surveyed the designers of New York Fashion Week and beyond to bring you the season's most important color trends. This report previews the most prominent hues for spring 2014.
