Art: Joana Vasconcelos @ Le Chateau de Versailles

This year for it's annual contemporary art exhibition the Versailles palace received Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos. Her work is amazing, all large sculptures and extravagant installations with a feminine approach.

Vasconcelos is inclined to see Marie Antoinette as a women's lib heroine. "She is no longer the wife of the king, but a political women, executed for that reason. Her execution was one of the first steps towards female emancipation. Without her I wouldn't be here." she says.

"The palace of Versailles is the place of art par excellence, where artists have always felt at home, displaying their work in it not as an exhibition but as a setting totally imbued with art. It is a full, complete and rich place where it seems that nothing can be added. It is the ideal setting for celebrating audacity, experimentation and freedom, where creative talent is appreciated like in no other place."
-Joana Vasconcelos

The exhibition will last until September 30, 2012
